Description

My Legend of Korra OC: Kirima

Name: Kirima
Age: 16
Residing Nation: Republic City, formerly Kiyoshi Island
Bender: Earth Bender
Occupation/Rank: Average citizen, she works in a bakery and often makes delivery runs.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Height: 5’6”
Distinguishing Traits: Bars on the top of her ears and spiraled hanging earrings on the bottom though all are made of plastic; she doesn’t want an accidental ripping off of metal earrings.

Fighting Strategies

Strengths: Kirima is very flexible and quick and thanks to the help of Ty Lee, one of the elders on Kiyoshi Island, she knows all the pressure points on the body, so even if she can’t bend she can still fight. She also knows better than to fall for taunts.
Weaknesses: Her physical strength isn’t the best and she gets frustrated when she thinks she is starting to lose.
Special talents/Ways of fighting: Kirima earthbends and can also fight like a chi blocker thanks to Ty Lee. When sand is available she can bend it fairly well and she attempts to bend metal but can only really manipulate small things like screws... or earrings.
Strategy: She tends to be both a defensive and offensive fighter and tries to look at things as a whole and plan.

Personal:

Good Points on Personality: She is very levelheaded and doesn’t get angry easily and when it comes to those she cares about she is as loyal as can be. Kirima is also very fun loving and loves to feel the wind blowing through her hair. If you are her friend or someone she cares about she is very trustworthy, if you need to spill your guts and not worry about anyone telling she’s your girl, trust is very important to her.
Bad Points on Personality: Stubborn might as well be her middle name. When Kirima’s mind is set on something she won’t let it go, like teaching herself metalbending. While she does have friends and people that she cares about it is extremely hard to gain her friendship, she is wary and suspicious of everyone, even animals. If Kirima ever feels like she is starting to lose a fight she gets stressed out and worried, even if she isn’t losing at that point.

Habits: She tilts her head to the side when thinking about something, pops her neck when nervous, and bites her lip when in long periods of silence.

Crushing on:
Tahno, though at first she refuses to admit it to herself and refers to him as her enemy. Though he ticks her off sometimes, she can't help but like him. He has him kind moments, even if they have a douche-baggy flair.

Favorite and Least Favorite -
Color: Spring green is her favorite and she doesn’t much like pink.
Food: She loves any type of fish and hates cabbage.
Season: She loves Spring and dislikes winter.
Weather: She prefers cool and windy and dislikes rain.
Place: The Park, down near the lake, she dislikes being stuck in any overcrowded area.
Drink: Anything is good with her.
Past:
Kirima was born on Kiyoshi Island in the Earth Kingdom and lived with her mother Keya and father Deilan. When she was about seven her father passed away in a boating accident and her mother was somewhat distant afterwards. It wasn’t long after her father’s passing that she discovered her earth bending that she had inherited from her father and her mother completely shut her out because of how much she reminded her of Deilan. Her paternal grandmother took her in right away and it wasn’t long after that that she met Ty Lee, an elder within the village that had come to them after the passing of Ozai. She learned pressure points along with her earthbending training and she was glad to belong again.
When she was twelve her grandmother passed, leaving her alone again, and as it was no one else in the village could take her in and she was forced to live in the streets with some other kids that were a bit older than her while some of the adults looked to see if they could contact some of her family elsewhere. The other kids used her bending to their advantage though once they were caught nicking some fruit from a stand they left her high and dry to take the punishment. Eventually a letter and a boat ticket came from her maternal Aunt Osami in Republic City, beckoning her to a new home.
It was shortly before Kirima’s fourteenth birthday that she arrived in Republic city to live with her Aunt Osami, Uncle Yozlan, and little cousin Jozlin. Kirima was weary after her past experiences with people and it took several months for her to warm up to them. Sometime later she was wandering through Republic City, darting in and out of the crowded streets before she got tripped and slammed into a cart, knocking the hatch open and getting buried in cabbages. The man that owned the stand screamed at her about his cabbages attracting the crowd’s attention and freaking Kirima out. She took off and ended up on a sandy little beach near the docks, angry at the man for screaming at her over an accident she kicked at the sand, accidentally sand-bending which sent her hurtling into the water. Hearing laughter behind her, Kirima turned her head to see two boys and with a scowl she sand-bended sand into their faces before stalking off to her home. One night not long after the cabbage-incident Kirima was sent out to make a delivery from her Aunt’s bakery. On the way back some thugs came at her and in her panic she couldn’t fight all of them off, but out of nowhere the thugs were thrown off of her and the two boys from the beach were standing in front of her. They introduced themselves as Bolin and Mako and walked home with her, her Aunt even gave them some treats for helping Kirima. After that night she made a conscious effort to befriend the boys, figuring they couldn’t be like the ones back on Kiyoshi Island since they had helped even after she bended sand into their faces.
Another incident should be mentioned about Kirima and metal-bending. Ever since she had seen the police force once she had arrived in Republic City she had been determined to learn. It went a little something like this around her fifteenth birthday:
‘Taking a deep breath Kirima concentrated on the metal box in front of her. I can do this. I am an earth-bender. I can metal-bend. Getting into position she moved and focused on ripping the side of the box off. Nothing. With a scowl Kirima jerked her hand again and froze as a small object rolled on the floor in front of her. Kirima’s eyes narrowed a moment before a searing pain hit her and her hand jerked up to her ear, the earring on the floor and her ear a mess. “SHI-”’
This would be why all of her earrings are fully plastic to this day.
Speaking of today, Kirima still works within her Aunt’s bakery ‘Osami Sweets’ at the register, but mostly making deliveries. Kirima also spends some of her free time with Mako and Bolin as well as braving the crowds to cheer them on during their pro-bending matches. She also vehemently opposes Amon, as does her family, and wants to help Korra as much as possible.
Family:
Mother: Keya; Alive. Kirima hates her mother for abandoning her when she needed her most. The root cause to her trust issues along with the village kids.
Father: Deilan; deceased. She misses him dearly and sometimes ‘talks’ to him, asking questions when things get tough.
Aunt: Osami; alive. She’s more like an older sister to Kirima than a mother figure, or even an aunt. She comes to her sometimes if she has a problem.
Uncle: Yozlan; alive. Kirima tolerates him, neither likes nor dislikes him. He’s gone a lot working under the council members.
Cousin: Jozlin; alive, 12. Kirima is very protective of Jozlin and sees her as her little sister.
Friends:
Bolin; She loves joking around with Bolin though when it comes to the stupider things he does she tries to talk him out of it. She often watches Pabu for him during matches and helps to teach him tricks.
Mako; Kirima can’t help but to smile around Mako and likes to tease him, often about girls he likes. She finds him easy to talk to and hang out with, even in silence.
Friend/Rival: Korra; Kirima kind of disliked Korra at first but grew to trust her slightly faster than others in the past. Hanging out with her is a lot of fun, but she views her as a rival in earthbending, and considers herself a step ahead since she can bend sand and small metal objects..
Enemies/Rivals:
Asami; Kirima is polite to her, but she doesn’t like her much for coming in and snatching up Mako as she knows about Korra's feelings for him.
Amon; Just the sound of his day dampens her mood, she wants to do everything she can to stop him.
Tahno; this one is self-explanatory as to why. Kirima makes a faces at the back of his head with Bolin. And has said: “He’s as ugly as a wolfbat. Inside and out…Okay… maybe just inside.” She really grows to like him, but denies it for a long while.
Living Situation:

Kirima lives with her aunt, uncle, and cousin in an apartment above the family’s bakery. It is just big enough for all of them, though she has to share a room with Jozlin. There’s also a hut on top of the house of Jun Qu(explained at the bottom!).
Questions for your OC to answer:
How does your OC feel about the Equalist Cause:
Kirima can see where they’re coming from in a way, but she resents them for wanting to take away what is important to her and all other benders. For her bending isn’t just an ability, it’s part of who she is and how she came to be who she is, and she doesn’t want anyone to lose that.
If your OC was to lose his/her bending (ignore if your OC is a nonbender), what would they do and how would they feel?
She would freak-out and breakdown, then get angry. Kirima would no doubt come back with a vengeance and fight with everything she has left. Honestly, to lose her bending would also be something she would probably never completely come to terms with, but she would find a way to move forward even with that little pice of her missing.
What are some aspects to a person’s personality that your OC dislikes and likes?
She dislikes anybody that is purely manipulative, like Tarrlock, and people who have egos as big as blimps. She admires bravery and the will to protect.
What kind of person would your OC become infatuated with/ fall in love with?
Someone that was both strong and strong willed, and maybe a bit protective. Honestly, she likes people who can get under her skin and she has fun being around at the same time.
What is your OC fascinated by? Do they look up to someone/ admire someone?
Kirima really admires Toph Beifong, she feels like Toph is one of the best earth-benders ever to be able to ‘see’ and bend and for creating a while new sub-category of bending.
She also looks up to Ty Lee for being able to do what was right and betray Azula to save Mai and for still fighting afterwards by joining the Kiyoshi Warriors.

How does your OC feel about:

Aang: Like so many others I look up to Avatar Aang for saving the nations from Fire Nation rule.
Ty Lee: Without Ty Lee I don’t know how I would have ended up. She was a great influence for me in hard times, and a great teacher. I really miss her and wish I could go visit.
Toph Beifong: I think Toph is someone all earth-benders should look up to. She brought in a whole new era of earth-bending! I only wish I could be as great as her.
Korra: Korra is a great friend, even though she also likes Mako. If anyone can take down Amon, it’s Korra.
Tenzin: I gotta say I feel for him with having to deal with the trouble Korra causes, and with two of his kids being so excitable all the time. Though I know if I need help I can ask him.
Mako: Mako is a great guy; I mean he’s so brave and nice! He really wants to protect everyone he cares about, if only he wasn’t with Asami.
Bolin: Bolin is a great friend, and I know if I need cheering up he can do it. Though it’s another thing to try and cheer him up…
Amon: Dirty rat. He is the thing I hate most in this world, enough said there.
Asami: I don’t think she likes that I’m close to Mako. Then again, I don’t like that she sunk her platypusbear claws into him.
Lin Beifong: Lin is an awesome bender, tough too. If only she would teach me metal bending without me having to join the police force.
The "Airbending" Siblings (Tenzin's kids): Wonderful kids, really, but they’re like medicine: you can only take so much of them at once.
Tarrlok: Manipulative jerkwad. There is something about him that is off and untrustworthy to the extreme.
Pema: She’s sort of like a mom to me, very caring. I feel for her having to deal with kids that have so much energy.

I would also like to add that she has a Kaconroo. A Kaconroo is basically a mix between a falcon and kangaroo. It is just large enough for one person to ride and can fly as well as jump fairly decent distances. Kirima’s friend is named Jun Qu and she is very protective of Kirima.

I own Kirima, and only Kirima.. and possibly the Kaconroo.
